In a competitive energy industry, smaller companies must survive in partnership with the industry giants they once wanted to replace. The U.S. Department of Energy’s loan program is an important part of the government’s move to scale up and commercialize new energy technologies. It is a mess now. In 2009, Solyndra received a $ 535 million loan guarantee from the Department of Energy. In September last year, the Silicon Valley solar company declared bankruptcy, which left a reputation for loan programs.
