广东省对东江的综合治理和开发做了很多工作。五十年代中期,珠江流域规划办公室首次编制出珠江流域(包括东江)开发与治理方案。六十年代初期,在广东省委的赞同和支持下,并得到水利电力部的批准,按开发与治理的要求,在东江流域的最大支流新丰江建成了以发电、防洪为主和综合利用的新丰江水利枢纽。新丰江枢纽的建成,是广东省水利、水电建设史上的大事。
Guangdong Province has done a lot of work on the comprehensive management and development of the Dongjiang River. In the mid-1950s, the Pearl River Basin Planning Office compiled the first plan for the development and management of the Pearl River Basin (including the Dongjiang River). In the early 1960s, under the approval and support of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee, and with the approval of the Ministry of Water Conservancy and Electric Power, the Xinfengjiang, the largest tributary of the Dongjiang River Basin, was built with the power generation, flood control and comprehensive utilization Xinfengjiang Water Conservancy. The completion of the Xinfengjiang hub is a major event in the history of Guangdong’s water conservancy and hydropower construction.
