The use of English modal verbs has always been the focus and difficulty of English learners in China. A large number of studies show that there is a gap between Chinese learners and native speakers in the use of modal verbs. This study compares the use of modal verbs by Chinese learners by comparing random English corpus of English non-English majors and English corpus of native speakers. The study found that Chinese learners overuse the use of can and will, while there is too little use of would in the use of would.
