The formation of English idioms generally has its origin, if you do not understand its meaning, tend to literate meaning and fall into the trap, so ridiculous. There are three main sources of social idioms in English, one is from the myths and legends of ancient Greece and Rome, the other is from the Bible stories and other literary works. The third is from historical anecdotes and customs. Therefore, the formation and development of English idioms are inextricably linked with the cultural and historical background of western society. Language is the product of the development of society and history.
